Collective Media Cooperative (CMC) is a platform for innovative projects aimed at promoting fairer relations in the media and publishing sector. The platform offers the following services: AAZ (client matching service for freelancers), Etcetera (etc.) (editorial and content production studio), and MOSELE (book production and publishing).

CMC’s projects cultivate self-help, collective action, solidarity, economic inclusion and value sharing. Their models are based on Ubuntu economics, where harmonious relations between people are the foundations of a just, equitable and vibrant economy.

Neo Maditla And Osiame Molefe are two of the founders of the CMC.

As Coordinating Director, Neo is responsible for ensuring effective communication with their members, funders and other stakeholders and that their projects, products and services are well marketed. She is also jointly responsible for keeping members engaged in CMC’s work and ensuring CMC’s suite of benefits and services are responsive to their needs and aspirations. Neo has a degree in journalism and 15 years of experience as a journalist, editor, trainer and communications strategist across news media, television, events and conferencing, and communications.

As Coordinating Director, Osiame is responsible for ensuring that CMC has the resources and financial management systems to execute their projects well. He is also jointly responsible for keeping members engaged in CMC's work and ensuring that CMC’s suite of benefits and services are responsive to their needs and aspirations. He has 15 years of experience as a writer and editor, holds a master’s in social policy and development, and is a chartered accountant with experience in media and publishing.

As part of Creative Africa, the CMC is supported in the development of its MOSELE project, which aspires to build a democratic, equitable, resilient and autonomous community around the work of African writers.

Their main objectives of the next 12 months are the following:

  • Produce and publish at least four books whose value is shared equitably among those involved;
  • Expand the member base in response to book production needs and provide suit of benefits and services responsive to their literary needs and aspirations;
  • Effectively communicate the CMC’s work on MOSELE to existing and targeted stakeholders;
  • Market the MOSELE project book and membership offers to the public;
  • Establish capacity to distribute books through CMC’s own and external channels
