What next for investment in African cultural and creative industries?

In October 2025, we took advantage of our presence in Johannesburg and at Fak'ugesi 2025 to present our new advocacy booklet:« What are the prospects for investment in cultural and creative industries in Africa? ».

Cultural and creative industries (CCIs) are a powerful driver of transformation across the continent. Convinced of this potential, Afrique Créative aims to encourage a broader community of investors and economic partners to engage in this strategic sector.

During the launch event, we first heard from Marie-Hélène Loison, Regional Director of the Agence Française de Développement in South Africa, who highlighted AFD’s commitment to supporting the development of CCIs in Africa. The researcher and author of the booklet, Yarri Kamara, then presented its key findings, outlining investment opportunities and available financing mechanisms for the sector, while also underscoring the challenges that remain. To illustrate these points, two creative entrepreneurs, Awura Abena Agyeman (WEAR Ghana) and Mohamed Ali Midani (DCX), shared their experiences in accessing finance. Finally, our partner I&P Ecosystèmes provided the investor’s perspective, drawing on its experience in managing investment funds.

These discussions highlighted the importance of mobilising a wide range of stakeholders to support the financing of CCIs in Africa. We now hope that the insights shared will contribute to strengthening and structuring the sector across the continent.

A big thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this launch!

As part of a wider campaign in support of investment in CCIs, our booklet was also presented at Mondiacult 2025 (September 2025), the Montpellier Biennale (October 2025), the Creation Africa Forum in Lagos (October 2025) and FOMICC in Rabat (December 2025).
