Afrique Créative Edition #2 here we go!

126 applications were received during the call for applications which lasted from 04/19/2021 to 05/23/2021. The eligible applications (82) were reread and rated by country by: the partner national incubator, an institutional representative (AFD, French embassy or IF), and a partner from the ICC or entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The pre-selection committee, chaired by AFD, then validated, on the basis of the scores and comments given by the jurors, a list of 17 entrepreneurs selected for the pre-incubation phase.

Tuesday June 29 took place online the meeting of launch of the pre-incubation phase of Afrique Créative Edition #2. The 17 preselected candidates were able to meet and introduce themselves.

This meeting marked the start of 12 weeks of pre-incubation. Candidates are supported by the partner incubators of this edition of the program to notably:

  • (Re)structure their economic models
  • Establish their scaling strategy and define their acceleration objectives
  • Rework their acceleration project and the funding request submitted to Afrique Créative
  • Work on financial projections related to this acceleration project
  • Prepare to pitch their acceleration project to the final jury

Here is a brief overview of the shortlisted companies 

Burkina Faso:

Pilumpiku production : Pilumpiku Production has been based in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, since January 2011. It covers the fields of documentary and fiction film production, executive production of audiovisual projects, as well as the organization of training courses in writing and to production.

Biibop : BiiBop is a Burkinabè social enterprise for the design and artisanal production of educational games and toys. She designs and manufactures educational games and toys for children aged 0 to 6. The BiiBop project is built on the idea of bringing together craftsmen (woodworking, painting, drawing, textile work) and a creative team to think and design products that meet a qualitative charter adapted to the needs of children and early childhood professionals.

Cameroon:

We tell africa group : Afrika Lyrics (published by We Tell Africa) is a distribution platform for lyrics and translations of African songs. The site afrikalyrics.com was founded in November 2017 with the mission of responding to the problem of the scarcity and poor quality of African song lyrics on the internet. AfrikaLyrics covers 10 African countries and intends to expand to more countries.

Ets color technology : Platform (web and mobile) for the discovery, streaming (Music, Podcast & videos) and promotion of African music.

Ivory Coast

Dycoco: Dycoco Comedy Club aims to create the first professional comedian scene in West Africa. Dycoco supports and trains a collective of young comedians all year round and gives everyone access to a daily platform for cultural expression.

Ghana,

Foundation for contemporary art-ghana : FCA – Ghana is an active network of Accra-based artists established in 2004 to provide a platform for the critical presentation, development and promotion of contemporary art in Ghana. Accra City Maker-lab will be a “mobile” manufacturing lab built from shipping containers and stationed for one year each in three different communities in the city of Accra over a three-year period.

Safi label : a sustainable fashion brand that promotes minimalism and conscious living by favoring sustainable materials such as organically tanned leathers and fashion waste

Morocco,

Dar islie : Dar Islie's mission is to perpetuate and safeguard ancestral artisanal know-how. The Dar Islie project is a publishing house for objects designed and produced between African artisans and international designers. On a high-end/luxury positioning, in an approach to promote know-how and low remuneration of partner artisans.

Palm grove software : an independent video game creation studio based in Casablanca since the end of 2011. The main project and current driving force is the Birdspotting game for Desktop/console platforms, in collaboration with Joram Van Loenen, artistic director in the Netherlands, whose structure is Polynoise, founded in 2019.

Uganda,

Quad-a records : Quad-A Records ® is an audio production company, based in Uganda, known for providing audio solutions for multiple industries. Quad-A Records' mission is to restore the image of Africa through sound by providing high quality productions, training the next generation of sound engineers, developing new audio inventions and globally distributing new audio services.

East African records : East African Records is a music distribution company that aims to bring East African music to the rest of the world. A distribution company based in Uganda that provides artists with the training needed to properly distribute their music to the world.

Democratic Republic of Congo,

Jn design : JN Design is a structure specializing in the creation, production and distribution of ready-to-wear and fashion accessories as well as the design and production of various decorative and furnishing objects with fabrics reminiscent of Africa.

Digital multimedia label : would like to create a place, an incubator for creation, training and experimentation equipped with high-performance equipment to support training, creation and experimentation for artists, image and sound professionals as well as students using the media of image and sound.

Senegal,

Deed development : a culturally adapted and long-term music streaming service (DEEDO), available in 19 countries in West and Central Africa, 6 countries in Europe, the United States and Canada.

Studio djidjack music : DJIDJACK Studios SAS is a company specializing in musical production, promotion, production and arrangement, as well as in events (show organization) andt advertising (sound identity and design, original musical composition for products, brands and institutions)

Tunisia,

Akacia productions : Akacia Productions, based in Tunis, is a company that operates in the music sector. Promotes access to quality music through strengthening and promoting the visibility of players in the music sector in Tunisia and Africa, and strengthening and promoting the tangible and intangible heritage existing in Tunisia and Africa.

Morbiket : a creative digital content creation studio which operates in the sector of children's book publishing, cartoon production and the development of educational games on mobile using augmented reality technology, targeting children.

Next step : entrepreneurs will present their project at the end of September 2021 before a final jury which will select the 8 best projects for the rest of the program.
