Angèle DIABANG

The project leader 

Angèle Diabang trained at the Forum Média Center in Dakar (2003), at FEMIS in Paris and at the Filmakademie in Germany. In 2005, she directed her first film, My beautiful smile, hailed by international critics; followed by four other documentaries, including Congo, a doctor to save women, first film about Doctor Denis Mukwege, 2018 Nobel Peace Prize winner. Angèle then moves on to fiction with her short films My beloved co-wife (Clermont-Ferrand 2019 selection, prize for best screenplay at the Émergence du Togo festival) and A kora air (Bronze winner at FESPACO 2019 and Best short Film at AMAA 2019, Nigeria; best short film in Kigali, Bujumbura, Cotonou, Dakar). She also won the prize for best ECOWAS director at FESPACO 2019. From 2014 to 2016, Angèle was President of the Board of Directors of SODAV, the collective management society for copyright in Senegal.

The company 

Karoninka is a film production and direction company which, throughout its fourteen years of existence, has proven itself with a significant number of documentary and fiction films, institutional films, video clips, etc. Of Congo, a doctor to save women (first film on Doctor Denis Mukwege, Nobel Peace Prize 2018) at Waliden, someone else's child, Passing by Senegalese and Islam, Karoninka's filmography is very committed. His experience, which extends beyond the borders of Senegal, both in Africa and in Europe, has enabled him to acquire a network enabling him to meet the requirements of the profession. The commitment, spirit of innovation and rigor that characterize Karoninka allow her to be recognized in executive production and production direction for international productions during their filming in Senegal.

Development project 

With Afrique Créative, Karoninka is pursuing acceleration objectives. Among these, the company wants

  • Structuring your economic model and diversifying your sources of income

  • Stabilize and strengthen the team, mainly composed of women
  • Develop fictional and documentary television series projects.
  • Establish the Mousso Institute to train young girls from Casamance for careers in cinema
